Finding Neverland Musical Will Take the Stage
The musical based on the popular film will lead the 2014-2015 season of American Repertory Theater.
Finding Neverland, a new musical inspired by the Miramax film of the same title, will open the 2014-2015 season of Boston's American Repertory Theater. The run will begin in July 2014. Featuring a score by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy, and a book by James Graham, the piece explores the relationship between the Llewelyn Davies family and author J.M. Barrie as he begins creating the legendary character Peter Pan. A New York City workshop of the musical starred Glee's Matthew Morrison and Mary Poppins' Laura Michelle Kelly, though no casting for the Boston run, directed by Pippin Tony winner and A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus and choreographed by Mia Michaels, has been announced.
O.P.C., a new play by Eve Ensler will see its world premiere at A.R.T. in November 2014. The comedy explores the relationship between a mother running for Senate and her daughter, a Dumpster diver squatting in an abandoned apartment.
After a workshop run at the Abrons Arts Center in Manhattan, Mandy Patinkin and Taylor Mac will bring their play The Last Two People on Earth: An Apocalyptic Vaudeville to A.R.T. for a run in May 2015. Tony winner Susan Stroman (Bullets Over Broadway) returns to direct and choreograph the musical, which follows the final men on the planet as they work their way through the music of humankind.
The month of May will also see the world premiere of Matthew Aucoin's A New American Opera, inspired by the diary Walt Whitman kept while a nurse during the Civil War. Diane Paulus will direct, and the production will feature the Boston-based orchestra A Far Cry.
Additionally, at A.R.T.'s Oberon space will see Ruby Wax's Sane New World and The Hypocrities Mikado, directed by Sean Graney. Family programming includes Lila Rose Kaplan and Mike Pettry's The Light Princess, directed by Allegra Libonati.
