Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage has announced the first handful of Broadway and stage veterans set to join its upcoming 2014-15 season.
Tony nominee Jayne Houdyshell (Wicked, Follies) will open the season, making her D.C. stage debut as Alma in Morris Panych's world premiere comedy The Shoplifters, running from September 5-October 19.
Broadway veteran Jonathan Hadary (Spamalot) will then take on the leading role of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Artistic Director Molly Smith. Performances will run from October 31, 2014-January 4, 2015.
Arena Stage alum E. Faye Butler, who recently performed in the D.C. theater's production of Smokey Joe's Café, will return to the theater as Ruby in August Wilson's classic American drama King Hedley II, directed by Timothy Douglas. Performances will run from February 6-March 8, 2015.
Kamilah Forbes, associate director of Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me, will then make her Arena Stage directorial debut with the world premiere of the comedy-drama The Blood Quilt, running from April 24-June 7, 2015.
