The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company has announced its 2009-2010 season, which will open with Theodore Bikel in his new one-man show Sholom Aleichem: Laughter Through Tears, accompanied by Grammy Award-nominated Tamara Brooks on piano and internationally-renowned Bosnian accordionist Merima Kljuo. The work, which is based on the Yiddish storyteller’s youth, fame, and journey to America, will run October 13-18.

In the new year, the theater will produce Julie Tepperman’s Yichud (Seclusion) (February 5 – March 7), which focuses on Toronto’s Orthodox Jewish community and will be directed by Aaron Willis. The third offering in the company’s season will be The Soul of Gershwin, The Musical Journey of an America Klezmer (May 1-9), a piece which examines a generation of Jewish-American composers and their influences.
