A wicked cool place to be: Joel Grey is flanked by Idina Menzel (left) and Kristin Chenoweth (right), his gorgeous co-stars in the new Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical Wicked, at the opening night party at Tavern on the Green last evening.
Also on hand for the party: the fabulous Carole Shelley, who plays Madame Morrible in Wicked…
…and Gregory Maguire (left), author of the novel upon which Wicked is based, pictured here with Norbert Leo Butz, who plays Fiyero in the musical.
Here’s another shot of Wicked‘s witches in their party clothes. (Guess we’ll never know what Kristin’s saying to Idina, but it sure looks juicy!)
Another op’nin’, another party: Here are Polly Bergen and Mark Hamill, the entire cast of Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, celebrating the show’s opening at Sardi’s on Wednesday, October 29.
But wait, there’s more! Two openings were celebrated on Thursday, October 23. Here are composer David Friedman and co-star Anne Runolfsson at Azalea following the press opening of Listen to My Heart: The Songs of David Friedman, which is playing Upstairs at Studio 54…
…and here are the three stars of The Retreat From Moscow, partying at Laura Belle after that show’s opening: Eileen Atkins…
…John Lithgow…
…and Ben Chaplin.
On Monday, October 27, Manhattan Theatre Club’s Lynne Meadow — pictured here with her husband — received the Mr. Abbott Award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation in a gala ceremony at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers.
October 27 was also the night of the Career Transition for Dancers benefit Gotta Dance! at City Center. One of the highlights of the program was an excerpt from The Red Shoes presented by the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, featuring Keith Roberts (Movin’ Out) and Sandra Brown.
Other memorable performances and appearances during the Career Transition for Dancers gala: the New York City Ballet’s Amanda Edge (as Rosalia), Jenifer Ringer (as Anita), and ensemble in “America” from West Side Story…
…Maurice Hines (left) presenting a CTFD Award to Fayard Nicholas of the legendary Nicholas Brothers…
…Bebe Neuwirth presenting the Movado Dance Award to the eternally beautiful and elegant Cyd Charisse…
….and Neuwirth reuniting with her Chicago co-star Ann Reinking to lead a performance of “Big Spender” from Sweet Charity.
