Vital Theatre Company has announced its 2011-2012 season of family musicals, which will open with Uncle Pirate (September 24-November 13), featuring a book by Ben H. Winters, music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola and direction by Marshall Pailet. The production is based on the book by Douglas Rees, and centers on Wilson, an average kid who discovers his uncle is a REAL pirate.

Next up will be Angelina Ballerina The Very Merry Holiday Musical (November 19-January 2), from the creative team from the original Angelina Ballerina musical: Susan DiLallo (book and lyrics), Ben Morss (music), and Sam Viverito (direction and choreography). The show is based on the characters created by Katharine Holabird and illustrated by Helen Craig.

In the new year, Vital will once again present The Bully (January 14-February 26), with book by David L. Williams and music and lyrics by John Gregor. In it, a bus mix-up strands Lenny, the nerd, and Steve, the bully, at the wrong school where they both get picked on for being “the new kids.” The boys have to work together to get back to their school and begin to learn that they might not be so different after all.

The season will conclude with StinkyKids, The Musical (March 10-April 22), based on the StinkyKids characters created by Britt Menzies.
