Is there a better way to celebrate being cast in An American in Paris than by flying to Paris and taking in the sights? That's just what Robert Fairchild, a principal dancer at the New York City Ballet, and Leanne Cope, a first artist with London's Royal Ballet, did recently. In anticipation of the new Broadway-bound production, the pair jetted to the City of Light to take part in a promotional photo shoot, during which they literally danced around Paris. While their clothing is contemporary, the musical, directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon and designed by Tony winner Bob Crowley, will be set in the same post-World War II era as the film.
Featuring a book by Craig Lucas and a score by George and Ira Gershwin, An American in Paris hits Broadway in spring 2015, following a run from November 22-January 4 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
