The Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, the smallest of the Center Theatre Group’s three theaters, has announced its 2007-2008 season, which will feature world premieres by Tanya Barfield, David Mamet, and Alex Timbers and Michael Friedman.

The season will begin with the West Coast premiere of Matt Sax’s solo show Clay, a co-production of Chicago’s About Face Theatre and Lookingglass Theatre Company (September 13-October 14). In this work, developed in collaboration with and directed by Eric Rosen, Sax tells the story of Clay, a teenager who wants to escape the effects of his parent’s divorce and falls under the spell of a spoken-word guru.

Up next, will be Teatro de Los Andes’ En Un Sol Amarillo — Memorias de un Teblor, performed in Spanish with English subtitles (October 26-November 25). Directed by César Brie, this unusual piece recreates the chaotic atmosphere of Bolivia in 1998 when a massive earthquake rocked the country.

The theater’s season will continue with Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, a new musical about the seventh president of the United States featuring a score by Friedman and book and direction by Timbers (January 13-February 17); the national tour of Nilaja Sun’s acclaimed solo show No Child, about her experiences as a teaching artist in the New York City school system (March 6-April 13); and Mamet’s musical A Waitress in Yellowstone (May 11-June 8), which was scheduled to debut this season.

Concluding the season will be Barfield’s Of Equal Measure (June 29-July 27), directed by Leigh Silverman. In this new work by the author of Blue Door, Barfield provides an illuminating perspective on the presidency of Woodrow Wilson as viewed through Jade Kingston, an African-American stenographer working in the White House.
