Lights Up On Rio De Janiero: In the Heights Headed to Brazil

The Tony Award winning Broadway musical is heading to Brazil for its second international production.

Get your Brazilian flags out. In the Heights, the 2008 Tony Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist will be translated into Portuguese for its first Brazilian production.

The production will be directed by Wolf Maya and original Broadway cast member Luis Salgado. Salgado is also the choreographer and a consultant. The team will also include lighting designer Joel Silver (Peter and The Starcatcher), stage management consultant Heather Hogan (In The Heights on Broadway) and original In The Heights cast member Afra Hines (Ghost) as assistant choreographer. The production will premiere in Rio De Janiero on July 6th.

There will also be a second opening in Sao Paulo in September. This production will be directed by Wolf Maya with musical direction by Paulo Nogueira. No other creative team information or casting has been announced.

In the Heights has music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, and was conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The original Broadway production received four Tony Awards in 2008. The international premiere opened in Manila, Philippines in September of 2011.
