President Obama visited Israeli President Shimon Peres at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem on Wednesday. While he was there, he was treated to a surprise musical moment (really, is there any other kind?): three Israeli children, singing in Hebrew, English, and Arabic respectively, performed "Tomorrow" from the hit Broadway musical Annie as the two presidents watched, smiles all aglow. In the final chorus, the three sang in harmony and counterpoint, possibly to symbolize the peace of tomorrow they wish for the region. (P.S. Doesn't the first singer look like Allison Williams from HBO's Girls?) You can see it here:

After the show, the two presidents were so overwhelmed with good feelings that they went around back to Peres' garden and planted a Magnolia tree that Obama brought as a gift from the United States. You know, just to make the world a better place one step at a time.

This is just further proof that Annie's irrepressible optimism knows no bounds. With that in mind, we would like to nominate Lilla Crawford, Broadway's current Annie, for Special Envoy to the Middle East. If she can solve the Great Depression with nothing more than her can-do spirit, certainly she can bring peace to the Holy Land, right? Right?!?!
