Kevin Kline Award Winners Announced

The St. Louis Muny’s production of West Side Story and the Repertory Theatre of St Louis’ production of Take Me Out were the big winners at the first annual Kevin Kline Awards, which were presented on Monday, March 20 at the Roberts Orpheum Theater.

Jason Danieley, who starred on Broadway in The Full Monty and Candide, hosted the event. Kline, the Tony Award- and Oscar-winning actor for whom the awards are named, presented six of the 24 awards. Producer Rocco Landesman was also on hand as a presenter.

West Side Story won five awards, including Outstanding Production of a Musical; Natascia Diaz, who is currently starring Off-Broadway in Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, was named Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role as Anita. Take Me Out wom four awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play and Best Actor in a Play for Nat DeWolf.

Broadway veteran Ken Page was named Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his performance as King Herod The Muny’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Other acting winners included local favorites Gary Wayne Barker, Brooke Edwards, Michael Hand, Nancy Lewis, Ben Nordstrom, and Zoe Vander Haar.

In total, 37 plays and musicals shared in the 113 nominations, which were spread out over 22 categories. For more information, visit kevinklineawards.org.
