Steel Magnolias to Sprout on Broadway Next Season

It has been announced that a new production of Robert Harling’s award-winning play Steel Magnolias will open on Broadway during the 2004-2005 season.

The play, about a close-knit group of friends in a Southern beauty parlor, will be directed by Jason Moore; the production’s opening date, cast, and theater are yet to be announced.

Steel Magnolias originally opened on June 19, 1987 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre after a short run at WPA Theatre, and amassed a run of 1,126 performances. A successful 1989 film adaptation of the property starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts.
