Placido Domingo, Jonathan Kent, Mark Lamos, Daniel Okulitch, et al. Set for LA Opera’s 2010-2011 Season

LA Opera has announced its 2010-2011 season, which will open with the world premiere of Daniel Catán’s Il Postino (The Postman) (September 23-October 16). Placido Domingo will star in the production that will be directed by Ron Daniels and feature scenic and costume design by Tony Award winner Riccardo Hernandez and lighting design by two-time Tony Award winner Jennifer Tipton.

Also on LA Opera’s schedule for the coming year is the L.A. premiere of Mark Lamos’ staging of Verdi’s Rigoletto, which features scenic design by two-time Tony Award winner Michael Yeargan. Jonathan Kent’s staging of Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw (March 12-30), starring Patricia Racette, will also receive its Los Angeles premiere.

The season will also include a revival of Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro (September 26-October 17), directed by Ian Judge and featuring Daniel Okulitch in the title role; Wagner’s Lohengrin (November 20-December 12), featuring Ben Heppner in the title role; and Rossini’s Il Turco in Italiaa (The Turk in Italy) (February 19 – March 13), which will be a premiere for the company.

LA Opera will also offer a series of recitals featuring René Pape (January 15), Dmitri Hvorostovsky (February 10), and Jonas Kaufman (March 11). The season will culminate with the company’s 25th Anniversary Gala on April 2, which will feature Domingo, James Conlon and other guests to be announced at a later date.

Performers for the season will also include Sir Thomas Allen, William Burden, Charles Castronovo, Vladimir Chernov, Sarah Coburn, George Gagnidze, Cristina Gallardo-Domâs, Paolo Gavanelli, Soile Isokoski, Nino Machaidze, Ann Murray, Marlis Petersen, Martina Serafin, Kristinn Sigmundsson, Bo Skovhus, and Dolora Zajick.
