It seems that Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family) has even bigger fish to fry out west than he does on Broadway. The Tony- and Grammy Award-nominated composer and lyricist of Broadway's upcoming musical Big Fish will be premiering his new oratorio, entitled I Am Harvey Milk, during a special two-night engagement at San Francisco's Nourse Auditorium on June 27 and 28. The performance will be part of the chorus' 35th anniversary celebration concert, Harvey Milk 2013. Lippa will star in the role of Harvey Milk alongside Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Gypsy) as the Soprano soloist. Directed by Noah Himmelstein, conducted by Dr. Timothy Seelig, and with orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, the concert will feature the celebrated San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, accompanied by the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony.

Lippa's I Am Harvey Milk tells the story of the first openly gay individual to be elected to public office in California after winning a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. The piece, which is described as "part choral work, part theater piece," traces his life from boyhood through his political career and eventually to his tragic assassination in 1978.

The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus' Harvey Milk 2013 concert also plans to feature the debut of I am the Legacy, which will consist of a variety of performance pieces submitted by artists around the San Francisco Bay Area that celebrate Milk's lasting legacy.
