The 25th anniversary celebration of Gypsy of the Year, the culmination of six weeks of fundraising by Broadway, off-Broadway, and national touring shows, raised a total of $4,343,234 for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The total was announced on December 10 at the annual event, which features skits, songs, and performances from the theater industry's talented performers.

On the musical side, this year's top fundraiser was the 2013 Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots, which took in $377,301. The first runner-up was perennial favorite Wicked, which raised $273,940. The Glass Menagerie was the top fundraising play, taking in $161,218, with the repertory revivals of Twelfth Night and Richard III taking in $116,653.

Off-Broadway, Avenue Q and Peter and the Starcatcher came in first and second place, raising $27,066 and $23,360 respectively. The top fundraising national tour was Wicked's Munchkinland ensemble, coming in at $333,086.

The company of Broadway's The Lion King won the award for best onstage presentation with a dance of couples using ropes to spin, twirl, and jump to original music by cast member Bongi Dumas. The cast of Newsies were the runners-up, presenting a contemporary dance piece of leaps in the air.

Since the first Gypsy of the Year celebration in 1989, Broadway productions have raised a total of $57,277,815 to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
