West End veteran Earl Carpenter will join the new Broadway production of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil's Les Misérables in the role of Javert beginning August 12. Carpenter will play a limited engagement at the Imperial Theatre through October 3, during Will Swenson's previously announced hiatus from the production.

Carpenter previously played Javert in 2008 at the Queens Theatre and then in the Les Misérables 25th anniversary U.K. tour. Current cast member Adam Monley (Bishop of Digne and Combeferre) will step into the role of Javert from July 22-August 10, when Swenson, who currently plays the role, temporarily exits.

The cast of Broadway's Les Misérables also features Ramin Karimloo as Jean Valjean, Caissie Levy as Fantine, Nikki M. James as Éponine, Andy Mientus as Marius, Samantha Hill as Cosette, Cliff Saunders as Thénardier, Keala Settle as Madame Thénardier, and Kyle Scatliffe as Enjolras.

Les Misérables is based on Victor Hugo's classic novel of the same name as well as original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, an original adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, and additional material by James Fenton. This newly imagined production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and features scenic design inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo by Matt Kinley, costumes by Adreane Neofitu, additional costumes by Christine Rowlands, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, and projections by Fifty-Nine Productions.
