The New York Philharmonic has announced a series of holiday concerts, featuring a number of Broadway favorites, that will join its 2014-15 season of performances.
Tony Award nominee Norm Lewis (The Phantom of the Opera) will make his Philharmonic debut alongside jazz singer Dianne Reeves in the New Year's Eve concert A Gershwin Celebration, to be held at Avery Fisher Hall on December 31. Conducted by Bramwell Tovey, the program will include Gershwin's Cuban Overture and Catfish Row, a suite from Porgy and Bess, in which Lewis costarred with Audra McDonald on Broadway in 2012. Lewis and Reeves will also be joined by pianist Peter Martin, bass player Reuben Rogers, and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington.
Former Tony-nominated Cinderella costars Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana will also team up for a Valentine's Day concert titled A Broadway Romance, conducted by Ted Sperling. Set for February 14, 2015, the pair will sing duets from some of Broadway's most romantic musicals including West Side Story, She Loves Me, Carousel, Follies, and more.
The Philharmonic's season will also include a production of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein's Show Boat, starring Tony nominee Vanessa Williams (The Trip to Bountiful), Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey), and Tony nominee Lauren Worsham (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder). Performances will run at Avery Fisher Hall from November 5-8.
