Jason Robert Brown and Andrew Bergman's musical comedy Honeymoon In Vegas, which first ran at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in the fall of 2013, will transfer to Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre this winter, producers have announced. Directed by Gary Griffin, the production will begin previews Tuesday, November 18, with opening night set for Thursday, January 15.
The trio of stars of the Paper Mill Production, Tony nominee Rob McClure (Chaplin), Emmy nominee Tony Danza (Who's the Boss?), and Brynn O'Malley (Annie) will lead the Broadway company. Denis Jones will once again serve as choreographer. Additional casting and members of the creative team will be announced in the coming weeks.
Inspired by the film comedy of the same title (which featured screenplay by Bergman), the musical stars McClure as the commitment-phobic Jack Singer, who travels to Sin City to elope with his longtime girlfriend Betsy (O'Malley) and escape the curse of his long-dead mother. Complications ensue with the arrival of Tommy Korman (Tony Danza), a widowed gambler who takes a shine to Betsy, on account of her resemblance to his late wife.
The Paper Mill production featured a creative team made up of Thomas Murray (musical director), Don Sebesky, Larry Blank, and Charlie Rosen (orchestrations), Anna Louizos (scenic design), Brian Hemesath (costume design), Paul Miller (lighting design), Randy Hansen (sound design), and Bettie O. Rogers (hair and wig design).
