Helena Carroll in Philadelphia, Here I Come

Helena Carroll, an Irish actress born in Glasgow, Scotland, has died at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 84.

The daughter of Irish dramatist Paul Vincent Carroll and designer Helena Reilly, Helena Carroll was the youngest of three daughters. After her childhood in Scotland, Carroll moved to the United States in the 1950s, where she began acting professionally in tours as well as on Broadway.

She made her Broadway debut in 1956 in the original play Separate Tables and went on to appear in the Broadway premieres of the musicals Oliver!, Pickwick, and Georgy. In 1983, she played Louise in the Broadway revival of Private Lives starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. She also helped to found New York's Irish Players. In 2006, she received a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for her work in Irish Rep's Philadelphia, Here I Come.

Carroll's film and television credits included The Jerk, The Mambo Kings, Rocky, General Hospital, and Murder, She Wrote. Her final Broadway appearance was in Noël Coward's Waiting in the Wings in 1999.
