The American Theatre Wing has announced plans to honor director and producer Harold Prince at its annual Gala, which will be held on September 16 at the Plaza Hotel. American Theatre Wing Advisory Committee members Anki Leeds and CeCe Black will serve as the event's cochairs.
The gala will include cocktails, dinner, and performances, and all proceeds will benefit the educational and outreach programs of the American Theatre Wing. Those programs include SpringboardNYC, the Theatre Intern Group, the National Theatre Company Grants, and the Jonathan Larson Grants.
Harold Prince holds 21 Tony Awards, more than any other individual. As a producer, he has been attached to musicals such as The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He has also directed works including Hollywood Arms, The Visit, and The Great God Brown. Prince of Broadway, a musical revue of songs from Prince's career, is set to come to Broadway, but recently had its 2013 opening postponed.
