Elizabeth Olsen, best known for her acclaimed and haunting performance in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene, will take on the iconic role of Juliet William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, the first show of Classic Stage Company's upcoming 2013/2014 season. Dates for the production, additional cast members, and the creative team will be announced in the near future.

Olsen, an alumna of the Atlantic Acting School, makes her official New York stage debut with the production. She has previously appeared as an understudy in the short-lived 2008 off-Broadway drama, Dust, as well as the short-lived Broadway drama, Impressionism. Her many film credits include Liberal Arts, Red Lights, Silent House, Therese Raquin, Very Good Girls, and is filming Spike Lee's Old Boy. Olsen, the younger sister of actresses/fashion designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, is currently studying at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

CSC's production of the tragic love story Romeo & Juliet continues the company's exploration of the Bard's plays, which includes recent productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, and Hamlet. They have previously explored the canon of playwright Anton Chekhov, with four acclaimed productions of Uncle Vanya, The Cherry Orchard, Three Sisters, and Ivanov. Currently running at their 13th Street home is a revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical Passion, which will be followed by Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle, directed by artistic director Brian Kulick and featuring Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future).
