The upcoming Broadway production of Lyle Kessler's Orphans has delayed its preview and opening dates following the somewhat mysterious departure of Transformers star Shia LaBeouf on February 20. The show, which will star Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Tom Sturridge (On the Road), and Six Feet Under's Ben Foster (replacing LaBeouf), will now begin previews on March 26, with an opening night on April 18. The previous opening date was set for April 7.
Orphans follows two brothers who are living in a run-down North Philadelphia row house where the eldest brother, Treat, supports his seemingly simple-minded younger brother, Phillip, with petty thievery. In one scheme, the brothers kidnap an older man named Harold, who becomes the father figure that the orphaned brothers have always yearned for.
The play is directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Glengarry Glen Ross) and produced by Frederick Zollo and Robert Cole.
