The Oscars are Becoming The Tonys

End a musical-theater-themed evening without a show-stopping number? That would be an affront to Dionysus himself. The Academy Awards typically close with an announcement of the year's Best Picture, but this year, we get complimentary jazz hands. The 85th Annual Academy Awards will close with a performance by Broadway's favorite coloratura Kristin Chenoweth and the evening's host, Seth MacFarlane. In a release from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Oscars producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said they expect it to be a "'can't miss' moment."

The number will button an evening inspired by the history of musical theater on film. Additional performances will be offered by members of the casts of Les Misérables (nominated for 8 Oscars), the 2002 film Chicago (winner of 6 Oscars), and the 2006 film Dreamgirls (winner of 2 Oscars). Broadway, film, and music legend Barbra Streisand, who won on Oscar for her performance in the 1968 film adaptation of Funny Girl, will also perform.

Though few details about Chenoweth and MacFarlane's closing performance have been released, Zadan and Meron promise "there are going to be some big surprises that no one will see coming."
