Washington National Opera’s Francesca Zambello Promoted to Artistic Director

Francesca Zambello of Washington National Opera has been promoted from her position as artistic adviser to that of artistic director.

Zambello has worked in opera both as a director and an arts administrator and has an extensive history of success with WNO. She also currently serves as the Artistic and General Director of New York’s Glimmerglass Festival.

Her Broadway credits include helming the stage musical version of The Little Mermaid, and she is co-director for the forthcoming Broadway musical Rebecca.

In her new capacity, Zambello will have responsibility for the company’s artistic vision and direction, including repertoire and casting and will work in close collaboration with Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser, WNO Executive Director Michael L. Mael, and WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin.
