Terry Burrell to Play Aunt Eller in Arena Stage’s Oklahoma!

Terry Burrell will assume the role of Aunt Eller in Arena Stage’s production of Oklahoma! on August 9. She replaces E. Faye Butler, who is departing the company to assume the role of Wiletta Mayer in another Arena Stage production, Alice Childress’ Trouble in Mind.

Burrell’s credits include The Threepenny Opera, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Swinging on a Star, and Dreamgirls on Broadway, as well as The Women of Brewster Place at Arena Stage and Show Boat at Signature Theatre.

Directed by Molly Smith, the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic also features Nicholas Rodriguez as Curly, Eleasha Gamble as Laurey, Aaron Ramey as Jud Fry, Cody Williams as Will Parker, June Schreiner as Annie Carnes, and Nehal Joshi as Ai Hakim.

In related news, Arena Stage has announced complete casting for Trouble in Mind (September 9 – October 23), which will be directed by Irene Lewis. In addition to Butler, the play, which focuses on a theater company rehearsing an anti-lynching drama at the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement, will also feature Starla Benford (Millie Davis), Thomas Jefferson Byrd (Sheldon Forrester), Daren Kelly (Bill O’Wray), Garrett Neergaard (Eddie Fenton), Lawrence O’Dwyer (Henry), Brandon J. Dirden (John Nevan), Gretchen Hall (Judy Sears) and Marty Lodge (Al Manners).
