Washington, DC, celebrated its past season of theater last night at the 2018 Helen Hayes Awards ceremony, held at the Anthem.

The winners included several Broadway and off-Broadway favorites, including the National Theatre's pre-Broadway run of Mean Girls — which is now running at the August Wilson Theatre and is nominated for 12 Tony Awards — and Fun Home, which played at Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway and won five 2015 Tonys, including Best Musical. GALA Hispanic Theatre's production of In the Heights led the evening with nine awards. The John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company was presented to Monumental Theatre Company. Nancy Robinette was honored with the 2018 Helen Hayes Tribute.

Recognizing work produced in the 2017 calendar year, nominations are made in "Helen" or "Hayes" cohorts, depending on the number of Equity members involved in a production.
