Grammy and Emmy award-winning artist and Broadway veteran Cyndi Lauper will be honored at the “Heroes of Hope” tribute event, to be held at George Washington Lisner Auditorium in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, May 9, at 7:30pm.

Lauper appeared on Broadway in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of The Threepenny Opera. She has been a top-selling recording artist for three decades, with such hits as “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” and “True Colors.”

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will present Lauper with an award for her work on behalf of homeless LGBT youth through her foundation, the True Colors Fund.

The event is held in conjunction with the seventh annual National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, the annual observance by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the importance of caring for every child’s mental health.

The event is free and open to the public. To reserve tickets, visit www.awarenessevent.org.
