Contemporary American Theater Festival Announces 2012 Season

The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University has announced the productions set for its 2012 season, which will run July 6-29.

The festival will kick off with the world premiere of Gidion’s Knot by Johnna Adams, which explores the emotional and often painful world of elementary school. Ed Herendeen will direct. Bob Clyman’s The Exceptionals, directed by Tracy Brigden, tells the story of two mothers who are faced with complicated choices surrounding their extraordinarily gifted children. Neil LaBute’s new play In a Forest, Dark and Deep, which will be directed by Ed Herendeen, examines a sibling rivalry which escalates into a psychological thriller.

Also presented in the festival will be Captors, written by Evan M. Wiener and directed by Ed Herendeen, a play about the covert Israeli agents who held war criminal Adolf Eichmann for 10 days in Buenos Aires in 1960. The festival’s second world premiere production will be of Bess Wohl’s Barcelona, a story that aims to tear down the artificial borders of a global world.
