Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar Begin at Signature Theatre

Jesus Christ Superstar begins performances tonight at Signature Theatre.

Joe Calarco directs the musical featuring lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Choreography is by Karma Camp and musical direction by William Yanesh.

The production stars Nicholas Edwards (Spamilton) as Jesus of Nazareth, Ari McKay Wilford (Once) as Judas Iscariot, and Natascia Diaz (West Side Story) as Mary Magdalene. They are joined in the cast by Sherri L. Edelen (Midwestern Gothic) as King Herod, Sam Ludwig (Midwestern Gothic) as Annas, Michael J. Mainwaring (Smokey Joe’s Café) as Peter, Awa Sal Secka (Caroline, or Change) as Simon Zealotes, Thomas Adrian Simpson (Company) as Caiaphas, and Bobby Smith as Pontius Pilate (Midwestern Gothic).

The ensemble is rounded out by Vincent Kempski (Miss Saigon), David Landstrom (Avenue Q), Calvin McCullough (A Christmas Carol), Solomon Parker III (Dogfight), Jobari Parker-Namdar (Anyone Can Whistle), Chris Sizemore (Titanic), Harrison Smith (Parade), Korinn Walfall (Caroline, or Change), and Kara Tameika Watkins (Jelly’s Last Jam).

The creative team includes scenic design by Luciana Stecconi, lighting design by Jason Lyons, costume design by Frank Labovitz, sound design by Ryan Hickey, video design by Zach Borovay, and fight choreography by Casey Kaleba. The production stage manager is Kerry Epstein, and the assistant stage manager is Karen Currie.
