Laurie Metcalf Loses Her Mind in The Other Place
Manhattan Theatre Club brings back Sharr White’s dramatic exploration of a woman on the brink of dementia.
One of the most critically acclaimed plays of the 2010-2011 season, Sharr White’s The Other Place (first produced by MCC Theater) is now getting its Broadway premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on December 11, with an official opening on January 10. Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Wicked) directs the production.
The work explores the struggles of Juliana Smithton (played by Emmy Award winner Laurie Metcalf, reprising her off-Broadway role), a world-famous neurologist whose personal and professional life is becoming unhinged as she struggles with her own mental health.
The production also stars stage and screen star Daniel Stern (City Slickers) as Juliana’s husband, Ian, along with original cast member John Schiappa (Wicked) as “The Man” and Metcalf’s real-life daughter, Zoe Perry (Grey’s Anatomy) as “The Woman”.
