An Explosion of Holiday Cheer: Inside Rehearsals for The Joe Iconis Christmas Spectacular
Iconis and posse prepare their insane (and insanely awesome) show for 54 Below.
New York holiday traditions: Ice skating in Central Park, visiting the tree at Rockefeller Center, drinking whiskey with Santa at the Christmas Spectacular. Yup, you heard that right. The Joe Iconis Christmas Spectacular, now in its fifth year, is one of the best-kept insider secrets on the musical theater circuit … until now. We armed cast members of this 45-person concert/variety show/holiday-music-extravaganza with flipcams and had them shoot their rehearsals, guerilla-style, to give us an inside look at the family, friends, and voices that make up this alternative holiday experience. Lars von Trier has nothing on the Dogme-style prep these guys go through (only 30 hours of rehearsal and never at the same time; 320 ounces of fake snow; hundreds of strands of holiday lights; and one life-sized Christmas chestnut) to make their show happen.
