Degrassi Star Jake Epstein to Play Melchior in Spring Awakening Tour

Degrassi: The Next Generation star Jake Epstein will star as Melchior in the national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening, beginning July 7 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

Based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play, and set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers.

The show, which won eight Tony Awards, features music by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, direction by Michael Mayer, and choreography by Bill T. Jones. The design team includes Christine Jones (set), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Brian Ronan (sound).

Epstein, who plays Craig on the hit television series, has previously appeared on stage in Oliver!, Dog Sees God, Cinderella, Dangerous Liaisons and Our Town.
