Theodore Bikel, Mandy Patinkin, Marion Ross, et al. Set for Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company’s 2011-2012 Season

The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company in Toronto, Canada, has announced its 2011-2012 season.

Tony Award and Emmy Award winner Mandy Patinkin will open the season with two performances of his hit show, Mamaloshen (Mother Tongue) (Bluma Appel Theatre, September 17 & 18), a night of Yiddish music ranging from well-known standards like “Raisins and Almonds” and “Oyfn Pripetshik,” to rousing renditions of “Rabbi Elimeylekh” and “Der Alter Tzigayner,” to the performer’s own unique interpretations of Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” and Paul Simon’s “American Tune.”

The season will continue with Yisrael Campbell’s solo show, Circumcise Me (Jane Mallett Theatre, October 25 – November 6), directed by Sam Gold, followed by Hannah Moscovitch’s The Children’s Republic (Tarragon Theatre, November 8-December 18), directed by Alisa Palmer and starring Peter Hutt.

Theodore Bikel will star in Jeff Baron’s Visiting Mr. Green (Jane Mallett Theatre, January 28 – February 18), directed by Christopher Newton.

The season will conclude with Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers (Jane Mallett Theatre, May 12 – June 10), directed by Jim Warren. Marion Ross stars.

Ross will also be one of the artists participating in the theater’s “Conversations on the Green” series on Monday, May 14. Additional partipants include Eugene Levy (October 24), Paul Godfrey (November 28), and Stephen Lewis (February 27). Ralph Benmergui will host the series of one-on-one conversations offering audiences a glimpse into the lives of notable celebrities and how Jewish culture has affected their life and work.
