Joseph Adler, Marcia Milgrom Dodge, Tari Kelly, et al. Win Carbonell Awards

Winners of The Carbonell Awards, honoring outstanding theater in South Florida, have been announced. The prizes were presented in a ceremony held on April 4 in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Sarah Kane’s Blasted, seen at GableStage, received five awards, including Best Production of a Play. In addition, Joseph Adler received the award for Best Director, Play. Other winners in dramatic categories include Christopher Demos Brown, whose When the Sun Shone Brighter, was named Best New Work, and performers Gregg Weiner (Fifty Words), Barbara Bradshaw (Collected Stories), Will Connolly (Candida) and Deborah L. Sherman (Goldie, Max & Milk).

In musical categories, the Actors’ Playhouse’s Miss Saigon received three awards, including ones for director David Arisco and for Herman Sebek, who won Best Actor, Musical. Tari Kelly won Best Actress, Musical, for her performance in Anything Goes at Maltz Jupiter Theater. In addition, Marcia Milgrom Dodge received the award for Best Choreography for her work on this latter show. The award for Best Production of a Musical went to Broward Stage Door’s Mack and Mabel.
