Dublin’s Gate Theatre, Daniel MacIvor, et al. Set for 2010 Spoleto Festival

Spoleto Festival USA has announced programming for its 2010 season, to be held May 28 – June 13 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Theater highlights will include Dublin’s Gate Theatre’s production of Noël Coward’s Present Laughter and the U.S. premiere of Daniel MacIvor’s solo show, This Is What Happens Next.

Additional highlights include the opera Flora, with Anne-Carolyn Bird in the title role opposite Tyler Duncan as Mr. Friendly; the U.S. premiere of Wolfgang Rihm’s opera Proserpina, to be directed by Ken Rus Schmoll with the title role sung by Heather Buck; the Colla Marionette Company’s production of Franz Joseph Haydn’s marionette opera Philemon and Baucis as well as the company’s staging of Cinderella; the National Ballet of Georgia’s Giselle, danced by Nina Ananiashvili; a revival of Lucinda Childs’ Dance; the all-male ballet troupe Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo in Peter Anastos’s Go for Barocco; and Tel Aviv’s Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company’s Oyster.

Artists will also include Erik Friedlander, Gallim Dance, the brother-sister duo of Astrid and Otto Rot of Die Roten Punkte, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba, Ebony Hillbillies, Leszek Mozdzer, Nailor “Proveta” Azevedo, Julian Lage, Christian Wolff, Brooklyn Rider, and the Westminster Choir.

There will also be Festival debuts of jazz vocalists Lizz Wright, Norma Winstone and Fabiana Cozza; the Music in Time Series; the Intermezzi Series; Emmanuel Villaume conducting the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra; and the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who will return to headline the Festival Finale.
