Baker, Forest, Morscheck, Williams Set for Spoleto’s Amistad

Gregg Baker, Michael Forest, Stephen Morscheck, and Mary Elizabeth Williams will head the cast for the opera Amistad, by Anthony Davis and Thulani Davis, which will kick off the 2008 Spoleto USA Festival in Charleston, South Carolina on May 22. The production will be directed by Sam Helfrich, and conducted by Emmanuel Villaume. It will feature a set by Caleb Wertenbaker and costumes by Kate Voyce.

The festival, which runs through June 8, will also include The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Mark Bamhuti Joseph’s the break/s, The Nottingham Theatre Company’s production of The Burial at Thebes, Hotel Modern’s production of The Great War, The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, Chen Shi-Zheng’s music-theater piece Monkey: Journey to the West, and performances by Laurie Anderson, the Boston Ballet, Gerry Hemingway, Paula West, the Westminster Choir, and many others.
