About the Show

Actors Theatre of Washington presents its Mondays In May series.
This year’s series spotlights a controversial play by a Loudon County high school student. Sabrina Audrey Jess is a high school student in Loudon County who wrote a one-act play called “Offsides” about a popular high school athlete who realizes he is gay. The play’s performance at her school created a firestorm of controversy that reached the Virginia legislature when Del. Richard Black denounced the play’s performance as “being used to promote a homosexual lifestyle.” Loudon County churches also attacked the performance.
