About This Show

Critically acclaimed from Madrid to Melbourne and most recently at London’s reconstructed Globe Theatre, Teatro Buendía’s imagistic reworking of Shakespeare’s The Tempest is a magical mix of storytelling and physical virtuosity, conjured up by a company of 20 musicians, singers, dancers and actors. In this delightful, innovative interpretation, characters from six different Shakespearean plays plummet onto one mysterious island to join in the adventures. A sumptuous, ritualistic spectacle filled with the sights and sounds of Afro-Cuban culture: tropical birds, drums, glittering costumes, marvelous horn-sprouting masks, beasts formed out of lithe tumbling bodies, shape-shifting Santerian goddesses and bizarre illusions. This production is presented as part of thd du Maurier World Stage Festival.
