About This Show

Théâtre français de Toronto presents Jeux d’amour et de folie (Foolish Games of Love), three works by famous French playwrights Georges Feydeau and Sacha Guitry. Directed by David Danzon, artistic director of the critically acclaimed dance company Corpus and founder of Dusk Dances. Sacha Guitry and Georges Feydeau are famous worldwide for their sense of humour and saucy mockery of bourgeois life. Their comedies mainly hinge on quid pro quo, mistaken identity and love triangles.

In Guitry’s “Une lettre bien tapée/A Well-typed Letter,” a young woman takes full advantage of her very temporary job as a dactylo, as typists were called in Guitry’s day. Needless to say, this young woman is pretty and very ambitious.

Also Guitry’s “Une paire de gifles/A Slap in the Face” presents the classic Vaudeville trio of the husband, the lover and the wife, the latter engaging behind the husband’s back in a bout of retaliation.

“Feu la mère de Madame/Madame’s Late Mother”: death is no joke, especially when it involves Madame’s mother. A young couple, who have become somewhat estranged, face the bad news in the middle of the night. The news is doubly bad because it is really destined for someone else. A classic Feydeau.
