Composed by Sherman Edwards with book by Peter Stone, 1776 won five Tony Awards in 1969 and was revived on Broadway in 1997. Songs include “Sit Down, John,” “Cool, Cool Considerate Men,” “The Lees of Old Virginia” and “He Plays the Violin.”
