About This Show

The James Tolin Memorial Fund is appealing to your philanthropic side with its Benefit Staged Reading of this forceful play during the 15th anniversary year of the death of Matthew Shepard. In October 1998 an openly gay 21-year-old student was kidnapped, severely beaten, tied to a fence, and left to die on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. Soon after his death, Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project began year-long interviews with 200 town residents. Born from those interviews, the play reflects on hate crimes and the bullying that continues to this day. After the show a talk-back will be held with representatives from the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
