The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas tells the story of The Chicken Ranch, as the brothel is referred to by the locals, which regularly welcomes patrons ranging from Texas politicians to college football players. Its madam is Miss Mona, who happens to be in love with the local sheriff. The town is fine with this arrangement until a sleazy television newsman publicizes the ranch's activities, the governor joins the fray, and all hell breaks loose. Full of rousing country show tunes and large-scale production numbers, the musical is based on the true story of a legendary Texas brothel that operated from the 1840's to 1973, when it was finally shut down through the efforts of a crusading Houston radio commentator and his conservative audience. Diane Wargo directs.
