About This Show

Tartuffe is a pious imposter who arrives at the estate of a French nobleman and proceeds to gain respect of the head of the house while turning the house on its head. He attempts to marry the nobleman’s daughter, seduce his wife, and usurp his property while passing religious judgment on the estate’s inhabitants. Known for his theatrical commentaries on society and politics, Moliére creates in Tartuffe, a commentary on religious hypocrisy and the dangers of a society blinded by religious fervor — a subject as relevant today as when the play was first produced more than three centuries ago.
