About This Show

Tony Award winner Savion Glover is back at the Basie with his newest evening of music and dance, SoLe SANCTUARY: A Hoofer’s Meditation on the Art of Tap. An homage to the great tap dancers of the 20th century, he quotes their steps, intones their names, and praises their memory with a living shrine of their oversize photos on stage. The NY Times called the show, “…barebones and pure, full of the kind of rhythmic innovation that trips down one path, splinters off in different directions and then sweeps back home.” Glover himself has shaped the modern direction of his art form, debuting on Broadway at age 12 in The Tap Dance Kid, winning the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Choreography for the mega-hit, Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk, and earning additional Tony nominations for Noise Funk and Black and Blue.
