About This Show

The New Play Series will feature three new plays which are in development at the Grove Street Playhouse. After each staged reading, the cast and company will sit for an in-depth discussion with the audience. The plays included are:
1001 Nights (May 26-28): In the tense years before the Civil War, a small traveling theater troupe is presenting their homemade version of this classic story. But backstage something rather different is going on: the troupe is actually a stop on the Underground Railroad, carrying runaway slaves North to Ohio and freedom.
Waiting for Tadashi (June 2-4): Crossing Cultures and decades, Tadashi Lane embarks on an odyssey to find his family, from whom he has been estranged for nearly two decades. But as his tormented past collides with his present-day crusade, Tadashi confronts a history that made him an outsider in both his native Japan and his adopted America.
Second Chance (June 9-11): If you had the chance to save your spouse’s life by giving up your own, would you do it? The true tests of love come alive in this heartwarming comedy, a 21st century twist on It’s A Wonderful Life and the classic stylings of Kaufman and Hart.
