About This Show

The New Jersey Repertory Company presents the New Jersey premiere of Romulus Linney’s Klonsky and Schwartz. Based on the true story of Milton Klonsky and his mentor, Delmore Schwartz, the renowned playwright Romulus Linney, places this memory play in the heart of New York City in the 1960’s, a time of political turmoil, intellectual ferment, and a moment in time that was a threshold for new possibilities.

Directed by NJ Rep’s artistic director, SuzAnne Barabas, the drama stars John FitzGibbon as the troubled poet Delmore Schwartz, and David Volin as Milton Klonsky, a brilliant writer struggling to escape from behind the shadows of his famous friend. Both men are children of Jewish immigrants, and as the play chronicles their physical and spiritual journey the sounds of Klezmer music intermingle with contemporary themes.

Special preview performances are on Thursday, August 25 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 26 at 8:00 p.m.
