About This Show

How can we understand our own motivations for what we do? Michael Frayn, author of Democracy, explores this question by portraying a meeting that actually occurred in Nazi-occupied Denmark between two nuclear physicists and former colleagues — Bohr and Heisenberg — now working for opposite sides. What exactly did either hope to accomplish by meeting? Even many years later, they struggle finally to penetrate this question.
