About This Show

Clocking in at 6 hours (plus a 75 minute dinner break), this one-of-a-kind staging of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby includes every single word of the novel performed by 13 of NYC’s most intriguing performers. Seattle is one of only 3 cities in the United States to receive permission to stage Gatz this season.

ERS’s experimental adaptation replaces the veneer of the 20’s Jazz Age, with the low-rent office of a mysterious small business, where an employee (played by the Wooster Group’s Scott Shepherd) finds a rag-tag copy of the novel in his desk, begins to read aloud, and does not stop. As coincidences begin to emerge between his teeming office and the novel, it is no longer clear whether he’s reading the book or the book is reading him.
