Claustrophilia tells the tale of Edgar Allen Poe and his child bride, Sissy. Poor and as yet unknown, Poe receives his only applause from Sissy, who enjoys morbid tales of being buried alive as much as he does – perhaps more. In fact, Sissy gradually comes to want more than stories; she wants to experience the horrors of what lies beyond the veil of commonplace perception. Poe indulges her desires until they begin to become unsettling even to him.
