About This Show

In the neutral oasis of Switzerland during World War I, James Joyce, Vladimir Lenin, and the Dada artist Tristan Tzara all happened to be living in Zurich. Stoppard takes this historical coincidence and (as narrated by aging English consulate official Henry Carr) turns it into a hilariously madcap meeting of some of the most influential minds of the 20th century. Travesties combines intellectual curiosity, romantic intrigue, a lawsuit concerning a pair of pants, a hilariously hackneyed effort to stage Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, and all shades of revolution to create an unforgettable flight of historical fiction from one of our greatest living playwrights, Tom Stoppard.
