About This Show

The Time of Your Life is set in Nick’s Pacific Street Saloon, Restaurant, and Entertainment Palace, located on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Nick’s is a haven for lost souls seeking comfort and companionship during the final days of the Great Depression. The play takes place over the course of a single day in October 1939. The mysteriously wealthy Joe passes his time drinking champagne and sending Tom, his worshipful hanger-on and handyman, out to buy small extravagances. Tom is in love with a young prostitute, Kitty Duval, who is disenchanted with her life and living on her dreams. By providing an all-expenses-paid night at the St. Francis Hotel for Kitty and a job with a trucking company for Tom, Joe helps the two lovers transcend the shabbiness of their lonely lives to find happiness together. Along the way, Joe’s philosophy of life rubs off on everyone who steps into the saloon, giving them the courage to follow their dreams, to seek goodness and dignity-to live in the time of their lives.
